NLMK Lipetsk is operating a closed water loop system. There has been zero discharge of industrial and storm wastewater into water bodies since July 2009. Specific water consumption at the Lipetsk production site is now five times lower than in 2008, surpassing the Russian BAT level.

NLMK employees provide methodology assistance and expert assessment to the Lipetsk aeration station project aimed at increasing the effectiveness of purification facilities and ensuring that discharge at the Voronezh River outlet is in line with quality standards.
The municipal purification facilities of the Lipetsk aeration station treat approximately 47.5 million m3 of domestic wastewater per year (2019 data).
