The objective was to increase the unit’s productivity by replacing it with a more advanced reheating furnace.
The overhaul included dismantling the pusher-type reheating furnace and installing a modern walking beam furnace in its place.
As a result of the project, the productivity of Mill 2000 increased by over 113,000 tonnes per year, fuel consumption for slab heating was cut in half, steel burn-out decreased from 13.8 kg to 7.1 kg, electricity consumption decreased, slab heating quality improved, and greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions decreased by 70,000 t/year.
Investment totalled RUB 4 billion. The project payback period was 5.3 years. The project was completed in October 2019.
