In order to ensure that the site’s energy needs were fully met, the existing boiler house at NLMK Ural in Revda was overhauled, and its equipment was replaced.

Before the project was implemented, the source of steam, heat, and hot water for consumers was the central boiler house built in 1978. It had excessive heat capacity for the site’s actual demand. In addition, due to changes in the site’s process, there was no more demand for steam.

The solution was to build a mini co-generation plant to fully cover the site’s needs in heat energy and partially in electric energy. Increasing the energy conversion efficiency of the new water heating boilers and no longer using steam has led to a significant reduction in energy consumption. In addition, the installed gas-piston units have enabled electric energy generation to cover the site’s needs.

Investment totalled RUB 528.1 million. The payback period was 4.3 years. The project was finalized in September 2019.
