Recovery Co-Generation Plant (RCGP-2)

NLMK Lipetsk continues to build its second Recovery Co-Generation Plant (RCGP-2) rated at 300 MW. RCGP-2 will operate on secondary energy resources: by-product gases from the site’s ironmaking and steelmaking facilities. This will bring the share of self-generation in the power consumption mix from 64% to 94%, and reduce carbon oxide (CO) emissions by 3,000 tonnes per year and greenhouse gas (СО2) emissions by 650,000 tonnes per year. The new plant incorporates systems for collection and utilization of BOF gas. In 2024, NLMK Lipetsk commissioned a new 220 kV DS-3 sub-station to handle the future power output of RCGP-2 and completed construction of two BOF gasholder tanks. Installation of auxiliary equipment at RCGP-2 is nearing completion and the start-up is scheduled for 2025.
