NLMK Group is increasing operational efficiency and reducing its environmental impact by implementing energy-saving technologies, ensuring self-sufficiency in energy resources and using steelmaking by-products for energy generation. These efforts are among the key goals of the current strategic cycle in terms of leadership in production efficiency.
The current strategic cycle focuses on the following energy efficiency objectives in production:
- Continuous process improvement to reduce energy consumption,
- Efficiency improvement of fuel gas utilization in power generation,
- Process and equipment upgrades, introduction of new technologies,
- Efficient management of energy resources,
- Compliance with resource consumption regulations.
The company is entering a new stage of development. The projects of the Energy Complex Development Strategy aim to increase the share of captive electricity generation, maximizing the use of by-product metallurgical gases and reducing operating costs of energy facilities.
Increased energy efficiency of production is set to become a key goal in the upcoming strategic cycle. The main efforts in energy efficiency in 2024 and the medium term at NLMK include:
- Reducing specific energy consumption of production lines; in the medium term – achieving the minimum technically feasible level of consumption,
- Optimizing the process charts for production of energy resources,
- Driving efficiency of various types of equipment (energy, compressors, pumps, lighting),
- Development and deployment of digital solutions in energy,
- Implementing investment projects for infrastructure development, technical upgrades/construction for in core production with improved energy performance.
The company is working on a portfolio of technology development projects in energy. The focus areas in 2024 will be the development of projects for industrial energy storage technologies and analysis of alternative energy technologies.
