NLMK's compliance with the REACH requirements
In accordance with Article 8 (1) of the REACH Regulation, NLMK appointed Novexco (Cyprus) Ltd. to serve as its single REACH representative.
In November 2008, in order to ensure unhindered access of NLMK products to the EEA markets, NLMK’s single REACH representative passed the procedure for preliminary registration of pig iron, ammonium sulphate, coal tar and substances found in slabs in accordance with Article 28 of this Regulation. Pre-registration of substances in slabs was carried out as a proactive measure to ensure compliance with the REACH requirements before receiving official clarifications from the European Chemical Agency on the REACH status of slabs.
Registration of pig iron, ammonium sulphate and coal tar was prepared in accordance with the REACH recommendations and in close cooperation with the Iron Platform (REACH Consortium for Iron and Iron Substances), REACH for Coal Chemicals (R4CC) (REACH Consortium for coke-chemical products) and the FARM REACH Consortium (a consortium for fulfilling REACH requirements for fertilizers and related materials), as well as European consulting companies. All registration dossiers were submitted to the European Chemical Agency in November 2010 through the single REACH representative of NLMK. Following the successful registration, ECHA assigned registration numbers to pig iron, ammonium sulphate and coal tar produced by NLMK, as confirmed by official letters from the European Chemical Agency.
NLMK's clay targets contain coal pitch, which is the substance of the highest concern in the understanding of the REACH Regulation, at a concentration of more than 0.1% of its weight.
In September 2015, NLMK's single REACH representative has notified the authorities on the presence of this substance in the product under Article 7 (2) of the REACH Regulation.
NLMK continues its efforts to ensure compliance with the REACH requirements, including ongoing monitoring of its products for substances of very high concern and those included by ECHA in the list of candidate substances for inclusion in Annex XIV to the REACH Regulation and substances subject to restrictions in accordance with Annex XVII to this Regulation.
